Where To Eat In Jamaica: JUICI PATTIES

A Juici Patty and a Heineken never hurt nobody!

If you know Jamaican food, then you have experienced the joy and comforts offered in the simplicity of a patty.  If you’ve traveled to the Caribbean island itself, then you already know that it is nearly impossible to visit without indulging in one of the authentic crispy pastries often filled with piping hot, delicious, seasoned meat!

Jamaican cuisine is one of a kind, no doubt.  Savory and hearty dishes easily swell the waistline with fantastic takes on breads, sauces, seasonings and meats, but the Jamaican patty is a simple treat all unto itself meant to delight and satisfy as an easy snack or quick dinner.

Jamaica’s two primary fast food Jamaican patty chains reign supreme with numerous locations peppered throughout the island are TASTEE and JUICI Patties.  I have already written about Tastee in a previous post (Click here to check out that story), but during my last visit I made sure to check out the latter to see which patty I prefer.

Juici Patties lacks any kind of American luxury, glamour or gloss that is presented in American chains, but some locations offer a nice VIP area where you can grab a seat and get one-on-one service, as opposed to the common international normal fast food gripe of standing at a counter and waiting in line with various hungry foes.

Juici’s fun menu offers callaloo, salt fish, breakfast, fried chicken and beer!  I grabbed a spicy beef patty with coco bread and a Heineken.

The crispy turnover is a marvelous blend of texture when sandwiched between the soft and impossibly fresh bread.  While I found the Juicy patty’s crust to be a bit harder than I prefer, it still maintained a genuine flakiness and distinct flavor that cannot be found elsewhere.  Yes, Golden Krust is a complete fraud.

Juici is great for an authentic patty, but my heart still lies with Tastee!  Their freshness cannot be denied and their taste makes theirs one of the best ever.  However, if I were rating the beef patties I’ve had all over the world, Tastee would take the number 1 spot and Juici would easily come in 2nd.
