The Cuban Sandwich, BALDUCCI’S

A Cuban Sandwich

I’ve been wanting to write about THE CUBAN SANDWICH for a long time!  It’s one of the world’s best creations and if ever I’m in the mood for a sandwich and can spot one on a deli menu, it’s an automatic order of mine!  This sandwich blooms with flavorful and has a combo of ingredients that make it one of the world’s ultimate sandwiches!

At present day, the Cuban sandwich is primarily found throughout Florida, but if lucky you can find one in other cosmopolitan cities throughout the nation.  I found one recently at the BALDUCCI’S market and deli in the US Airways terminal at JFK.  Believed to have been the go-to lunch for Cuban workers in the 1800 and 1900′s, when travel to and from Cuba was free and easy, the Cuban Sandwich gained popularity throughout Miami restaurants and cafeterias during the 1950s and 60s.

Made with pressed cuban bread or toasted baguette, the Cuban sandwich includes ham, slow- roasted pork, melted swiss cheese, mustard and pickles!  Served hot, the Cuban sandwich makes for an awesome lunch or midnight snack!  I love Love LOVE this sandwich!

Have you ever tried the Cuban Sandwich?  If you have a spot in NYC, let me know!  I’d love to share it with BURGERS & BOURBON readers!

Yummy - I love a good sandwich, but I guess I've been missing out because I've never had a cuban sandwich. One thing I do know is that I LOVE pita chips;-)
