My TOP 5 CINCO DE MAYO MUST HAVES You Should Be Eating (& Drinking) This Weekend!
Sunday is CINCO DE MAYO aka May 5th the day when many Americans celebrate our neighboring country of Mexico, the nation’s heritage and the citizen’s pride! My favorite way to commemorate the occasion is to eat plenty of Mexican food! Below, check out my TOP FIVE Cinco De Mayo foods that you, too, should be scarfing down this weekend! forgo your diet, unbuckle your pants, and dig in to one of the best, most savory, and eclectic foods around! Get ‘em crispy, get ‘em on the soft shell, either way, no true Cinco De Mayo celebration is complete without some good ol’ TACOS! Beef, chicken and even fish are all the rage! With all the fixing packages easily available in any grocer, tacos are fun and easy to make at home, so dig in freely this weekend! 4. CORN ON THE COB
You may try the tacos on your own, but if you don’t have Mexican blood running through your veins, you may want to leave my #4 up to the pros! Mexican CORN ON THE COB is delicious! Beautifully seasoned and loaded with parmesan, my two favorite spots in NYC to get corn on the cob this way is at LA ESQUINA and CAFE HABANA! 3. TRES LECHES CAKE TRES LECHES CAKE is my new favorite dessert… Traditionally made of three kinds of milk, it is rich, creamy, smooth, decadent, moist and delicious! This sponge cake is one of the lightest and airiest desserts ever and is a Latin American staple. I love it! It’s spicy, it’s creamy, it’s one of the best dips ever, and no Mexican feast is complete without GUACAMOLE! Use it for chips, spread it on a burrito, or glaze a taco, but don’t miss out on the healthy fat from the avocados! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this dish, but if you ever make it for me, PLEASE hold the cilantro!1. THE MARGARITA
The MARGARITA is a Mexican cocktail of tequila and Cointreau, or some other orange-flavored liqueur served up with lime and/or lemon. The many varieties – on the rocks, frozen, salt or no salt, make it fun just to order… And when done right or paired with an extra shot, one is all you need! The Margarita will make any party or dining situation just that much better! No Cinco De Mayo is complete without liquor and I promise, no matter the imbiber, the Margarita is a definite crowd pleaser!
