Brother Jimmy's Fried Green Tomatoes

This past weekend, I had to keep the 4th of the July cookout celebration in the mix.  I just didn’t get enough ribs, burgers, hot dogs and pulled pork last Wednesday to kick-off my summer fling with the traditional American fare known as Barbecue.  Thank goodness, I didn’t have to trek all the way to Brooklyn for a backyard roast.  Instead, I remained on the Upper West Side and stopped by the BEST BBQ spot in all of New York City – BROTHER JIMMY’S!

Brother Jimmys' Barbecue Brisket

With over six locations throughout Manhattan (I’ve been to three), Brother’s Jimmy’s is growing quite rapidly.  They are also in San Juan and St. Maarten and they are headed to New Jersey and Miami!  But to be honest, it doesn’t matter where you are when you bite into one of Brother Jimmy’s succulent dishes, because the undeniable slow-smoking barbecue with flagrant fragrancy, tender meats, and sassy sauces automatically transports you to a Carolina ho-down where food is the main attraction.

As if the corn bread, sweet potato fries, collard greens, yams and strings beans weren’t enough.  Brother Jimmy’s also offers brussel sprouts, black eyed peas with bacon and the best pork and beans east of the Mississippi – and I’m just talking about side dishes!  Brother Jimmy’s extensive menu has EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING, you could want or expect from a BBQ pit stop.  But if you want to talk about their starters, try their fried green tomatoes, bucket o’ wings or hush puppies which are decadent, moist and poppable! :)

Brother Jimmy’s has ribs, chicken, and steak platters, sandwiches and starters!  I love them for their generous portions as well as their distinct taste, savory meats, and homemade sauces!

The prices at Brother Jimmy’s are moderately high, but the ambiance is nothing to dress up for.  It’s a BBQ spot, so don’t expect high-end china, cloth napkins or any suit and tie types.  It’s a young spot that’s good for families and friends.  It’s loud, it’s casual, but like the food, the hospitality is southern, gentle and kind!

I love me some Brother Jimmy’s and couldn’t wait to share this post with you!  If you, like me, love the summer time for the sun, but also for the barbecue, put Brother Jimmy’s on top of your list!  I just may see you there!
