As one reviewer acknowledged, when it comes to restaurants and dining, the name Jean Georges Vongerichten is synonymous with the best in luxury and food.  And as one can imagine, his downtown Manhattan locavore and environmentally conscious ABC KITCHEN certainly does not disappoint.

Located at 35 East 18th Street, bucolic elegance is beautifully balanced with cosmopolitan distinction at ABC Kitchen where servers are decked in plaid, food is served on rustic china, and fresh local ingredients are used in every recipe.  With such attention to detail, ABC Kitchen is more reminiscent of dining on a midwest farm than in downtown New York.

Roasted Carrot Salad

Each dish at ABC Kitchen is delicate and light.  The crab crostini featured grilled toast topped with a generous heaping of peekyote crab and lemon aioli.  The fresh and crisp crostini made for an ideal appetizer pre-cut in slices perfect for table sharing.

The roasted carrot salad was delicious.  Marinated and flavorful, it had kick and pizazz for a salad that could have easily gone flat.  It was an inventive, bold and pleasing creation!

When it comes to main courses at ABC Kitchen, there’s pizza, burgers, fish, and salads on their all-American nouveau menu.  Passing other tables, its hard to notice all the things you want to get or should have ordered upon exiting.

The chicken paillard was good.  Grilled to perfection and served on a bed of bountiful greens, it was healthy and satisfying.

The french toast, served with glazed apples, was just as light as everything else!  Fluffy, moist and sprinkled with powdered sugar, this dish was a sweet confection of quality goodness that could only be found here.  I’m not a fan of french toast, but I’d return to ABC Kitchen again and again for more and more of this decadent brunch must-have!

The caramel ice cream sundae was delightfully topped with Crunch ‘n Munch.  Served lightly salted and with peanuts and fudge, I fell in love with each cold spoonful.  The cake was equally pleasing and, to be honest, it doesn’t get much better than this!

With prices in the $15-$30 range, I would have expected better service.  Although friendly, the servers at ABC Kitchen move a caterpillar speeds… I ordered one of their fresh beet juices and it seemed like I had to remind them over and over not to forget to bring it to me.

ABC Kitchen, however, is worth the price, the wait, and appeal!  Martha Stewart is a fan, as well as other high-profile New Yorkers!  It’s a great place for tourist, the family, or that special person for a morning after (if you catch my drift), but go to ABC Kitchen!  It’s definitely one of the BEST places in New York for brunch, and may be one of the best spots in New York, period!

    Yummy! The french toast looks suspect, but you make it sound so delicious and I'm sure it is. I wanna move to NY just for the food:-)

    That carrot roasted salad didn't look appealing but your vivid description has me interested to try it!
