A Smoked Salmon Croissant, An Organic Omelet, Nachos and Fried Green Tomatoes at CORNER SOCIAL, Harlem
I had brunch the other day at one of my favorite Harlem spots – THE CORNER SOCIAL! I’ve written about this hip restaurant a few times before… Click the link above or use the search engine in the third column to the right to check out my previous posts on decor and other menu items.
On my past few visits to this uptown establishment with a pastoral menu, I’ve ordered the fried green tomatoes. Served as a side dish for $6 with about 4 slices, I’ve been ordering them as an appetizer or getting two orders and eating them as a meal. They’re greasy, but thinly sliced. Battered perfectly and served with a sweet and delicious truffle oil. They can be over indulgent, so, like everything else in the world, they are best when shared.
I also started with the Social Nachos. This is not a dish I’d normally order because it’s all carbs, cheese and fat, but when I do gratify the thrill of devouring this delicious appetizer, I go in unapologetically. The Social Nachos feature a house cheese and a spice blend, beans, jalapenos cheddar, lettuce, tomato AND sour cream all on top of crisp blue and corn tortillas!
For my main dish, I ordered the smoked salmon croissant sandwich. Although this sandwich was smaller than I expected, it was loaded with salmon and served with a scallion cream cheese, red onions and hard boiled egg squeezed between the freshly toasted croissant! The salad was a mixed green and the crisp chips had a homemade taste that made them the perfect accent! This made for a really fun, easy and fresh brunch. Just the way it’s supposed to be!
Here’s a shot of the three egg organic omelet with spinach and gruyere cheese. Served with country potatoes and toast, it’s a signature brunch dish that Corner Social also delivers proudly in terms of flavor and taste, as well as portion and size.
I love Corner Social! I’ve yet to go for dinner where the menu features ribs, chicken wings, shrimp and a mac & cheese dish! The overbearing nighttime crowd has kept me away during the evening hours, but with my newfound loyalty, one day I’ll grin and bear it, and I’ll be sure to let you know if the dinner recipes are equally as pleasing as the daytime thrills.
