A Hot Link & Garlic Fries at JODY MARONI’S

While passing through the Phoenix Airport terminals the other day, I spotted sausage and hot dog spot JODY MARONI’S. Because I wasn’t in the mood for typical fast food and the thought of another airplane meal would have made me sick, I thought the legendary “sausage kingdom” would make for a great alternative to the trite chicken sandwich or cheeseburger.
Since starting in 1979 as a Venice Beach boardwalk sausage stand, Jody Maroni’s has grown into a west coast chain, providing chicken, pork, and beef sausages and hot dogs to millions throughout California, Arizona and Las Vegas. The Sky Harbor airport location can be found in Terminal 4 and immediately caught my eye. I braved the lengthy line and ultimately ordered a Hot Link and garlic fries meal. Yeah yeah yeah, I know, not healthy – but the things one must do as a blogger!

Jody Maroni’s prides itslef in providing quality meat choices that are low in fat and sodium, with homemade recipes. But one thing they don’t boast about is the size of their sausages! As you can see from the photo above, the baguette was way to big for the skimpy sausage! Ground with oranges, wine, cheese and roasted red peppers, the Hot LInk is the chain’s most popular choice, and while it may have lacked size, it was smoky and delicious, and not even spicy (in my opinion). The bread itself was soft, buttery and seasoned with onions and seeds that made it flavorful and rich! The hot link would have been the perfect sandwich (I also had mine topped with peppers and sauerkraut) had there been sufficient meat to fill the awesome bread.

The garlic fries were an entirely different story! They were greasy, bountiful, oily, rich and cooked to perfection fries! I devoured them. They were the perfect compliment to the sandwich and this made for an awesome airport meal! Right after tearing it up, I walked a few feet to my plane and was sleep by take off!
