A Baby Back Ribs & Fried Shrimp Dinner from HARLEM BBQ
Sunday night I ordered in from a spot I had heard of, passed by recently, and have been wanting to try – HARLEM BBQ! Not to be confused with the Harlem BBQ Company that I wrote about at the end of January, Harlem BBQ is located at 2367 Frederick Douglass Boulevard on the corner of 127th Street, and, surprisingly, has some of the BEST barbecue I’ve ever had!
I ordered the rib & fried shrimp platter for $17.99… With two sides, I figured getting to try to basics along with the shrimp could provide sufficient insight on what Harlem BBQ is all about.
The crispy jumbo shrimp were clean and golden. Each battered tender bite was scrumptiously delicious! The ribs were perfectly drenched with a sweet and tangy barbecue sauce that had me licking my fingers and smacking my lips! As the meat practically fell off the bone, I was pleasantly impressed by Harlem BBQ’s generous serving and could barely finish the meal. Had it not been so good, I might have just had leftovers on Monday, but by the end of this meal, my plates were clean.
The crinkled steak cut sweet potato fries were sublime! They made for a perfect meal accompaniment and went very well with the barbecue sauce from the ribs. The cole slaw was standard, but it was decent, a bit sweet and a bit under seasoned, but again, after mixing it in with everything else, it was alright.
The best part of the meal, however, had to be the cornbread! Moist, fluffy and light, the corn bread has the consistency and sweetness more like cake than the normal stiff and stuffy bread. Harlem BBQ’s cornbread was exquisitely soft and delectable! I loved it!
So, as you can tell, I really enjoyed my order from Harlem BBQ, and highly anticipate the chance when I can forgo counting the calories and indulge in this heavenly rib pit once more!
